Simply Beautiful...
- Towering trees such as the cottonwood, oak, sycamore, redbud,
cedar, hazelnut and hickory line the trail, while blackberries
and dewberries climb the steep banks. Lush masses of colorful
wildflowers including wild Kansas sunflowers, May apple, Dutchman's
breeches, Queen Anne's lace, butterfly milkweed, and ox-eye
daisies are just a few of the species seen along the trail.
Native grasses such as Big Bluestem, Indiangrass, and Switchgrass
are abundant in this area.
Cottontail rabbits dart playfully along the trail. White-tailed
deer, wild turkeys, great horned owls, quail, and fox squirrels
are commonly seen as well. Many varieties of songbirds take refuge
in trees beside the trail, while ducks can be seen taking a refreshing
splash in surrounding lakes and ponds.
